Katy Grimes: The Sacramento Bee has been very critical of the Poizner/Whitman Republican primary gubernatorial race. That’s expected, but now it appears that The Bee editorial board is not only falling all over themselves to write about Jerry Brown, but they are tipping their hand toward the unopposed Brown. California’s unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, at 12.6 percent. That’s 2.7 percentage points above the national average. The persistence of unemployment also is something Californians haven’t seen since the Great Depression. The May 30 Sacramento Bee reported:

To a degree not seen in recent recessions, unemployment has become a drawn-out affair.

About 6.7 million Americans have been unemployed for at least 27 weeks, including nearly 880,000 Californians.… Read more

I’ll give L.A. Times columnist George Skelton marks for consistency: He always favors tax increases. Here he is back in 2007, even before the economy crashed, calling for “a temporary tax increase to balance the books.”
