Last week U.S. Rep. George Radanovich, R, Mariposa, announced he would not run for re-election in November. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger immediately sent out a brief but laudatory press release[1] thanking Radanovich for his public service. “Congressman Radanovich has built a notable and distinguished career while representing California and the people of the Central Valley,” Schwarzenegger said, according to the Dec. 29, 2009 release. “His 15 years in Congress have been invaluable, and on behalf of all Californians I thank Congressman Radanovich for his leadership and service.”
His tweets, too. We will miss Radanovich’s tweets.
Radanovich was one of a small handful of Congressional Republicans who used Twitter (his moniker is @RepRadanovich). And though the 64 140-character tweets he sent to his 1,556 followers were very partisan, they also exhibited a certain style that transcended the usual emoticon-laced Twitter banter:
Nov. 5, 2009, 6:53 pm: America is getting sick – sick of this Congress’s ‘government knows best’ attitude
July 29, 2009, 1:45 pm: Mr. Speaker, get me a doctor! Just the idea of government taking over #healthcare[2] is enough to make you sick
July 22, 2009, 2:17 am: Where Are The Jobs? The Democrats Are Giving Them to Little Fishies in the San Francisco Bay Delta.
June 5, 8:51 pm: Obama doesn’t understand rural farmers and farm-workers who cherish their guns, religion, and water
March 31, 2009, 9:29 pm: Draconian regulations turn fish into gods of environmental community, ignore inalienable rights of people
