He no sooner makes a budget, then some new projection comes out and he has to do it all over again. That and simple administrative competence. Have you ever tried to call the Governor’s office? – if you are not a big corporation, forget it.

Instead of that typical right wing talking point of “smaller government”, however, wouldn’t it be better to build a government that is the “right size” and actually works? Poster “tough love” above was onto something by pointing out that “reductions” in pensions for new employees won’t materialize for many years. Why not get rid of their pensions entirely? – none of the rest of us get them. In fact, why not get rid of public employees entirely – put them all under contract. These contracts could still offer a benefits package, and even be generous, but they should last a few years at most, and should never guarantee the lifetime employment that no one else in our society gets.

We’re broke NOW and savings from only NEW employees will not materialize for 20-30 years until they retire …. long after California has been dead and buried !
