I beg to differ David:
A big part of the story during the health care debate was whether members of Congress would commit to being in the same health care exchanges as American citizens, or whether they would hang on to their government plans — that’s why leadership chose to add this portion to the bill, serving as a guarantee that members would participate in the same health plans as the people. Here’s the relevant text:

(D) MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IN THE EXCHANGE-

(i) REQUIREMENT- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are–

(I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or

(II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).

Your article is incorrect. Section 1312 of the health reform law says: "Notwithstanding any other provision of law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act)."

Yes, the elitists feel that only they are smart enough to figure out the average persons' needs. Only they can shape our future for the 'best' of all the people.
The 'best' usually ends up somewhere below average of what us 'average' types were doing for ourselves on our own without help and, after the governemnt 'help', our old 'average' is no longer even available.
I have health insurance. I'm NOT always happy with the premiums and the co-pay has increased over the years, but I did this myself, on my own, without government assistance.
I KNOW that much of the rising costs in premiums and co-pays is caused by the ever increasing government 'mandates' that this or that service be covered if my insurer wants to keep doing business in California. I would gladly have a lower premium and know that if I want acupuncture, I will have to pay for it out of my own pocket.
