Blame the Banks who created this financial mess and the politicians who let it happen. Goverment is supposed to govern, not tax the crap out of its citizens or furlough or take 5,5 and 5% of state workers wages who on the majority make dirt. Politicians and legislators are at the top of the food chain when it comes to state government and they are the ones with the fat pensions not the janitors and business tax reps.
The people keep voting these jokers in... Arnold, Boxer, Niello who are all lifers and get a fat pension for only 4 years in office!!!
That needs to end then you will see better government. Oh and let us not forget the bourgeois who are now the Rich elite who own corporations who own Government. Let's blame them. How do you like that for musical chairs??

I can understand the frustration by those employed by the private sector. As a manager for a state department I can't understand why the state continues to hire 'NEW' workers when there are plenty of current workers to choose from. We don't need more state workers, just current state workers willing to WORK! It's like a game of musical chairs; a position becomes vacant, someone leaves one department to work for another, and the cycle starts all over. What I can tell you is the furloughs have shown that we can do our job, even with one less day a week ... oh I can hear the slams now, but come on state workers, you know as well as I Friday's are pretty much casual laid back days anyway. I've had two vacant positions for almost a whole year, it's been tough, but the department has realized salary savings [about $89k per vacant position]. I'm going to fill the positions because I have a major statewide project come up, but they'll be filled with current state employees ... so let the musical chairs game begin.

Katy, you are too optimistic. Sure California is in an unsustainable position right now, but with NO steps being taken to correct the situation, a gentle return to sensible government is out the the question.

It will be government by Political Correctness and 'Social Justice' until it all collapses into chaos. All we can hope for is a short time of chaos.
(How IS Greece doing now anyway?)
