Sen. Boxer vs. Latinos

Suppose an American auto company in Detroit opened a new plant in Canada. Would anybody gripe that the company was “killing American jobs”? No. And if someone did, he would be laughed at mightily. Everybody knows that the American and Canadian economies have been closely integrated for hundreds of years, and especially since industrialization.

Well, that’s also true with Mexico. Now, someone has attacked an American company for creating jobs in Mexico. That person is Sen. Barbara Boxer, Carly Fiorina’s opponent in the U.S. Senate race, on the Web site FiorinaFacts.com. In an attack on her, it reads:

December [2000] Fiorina plans for HP to build a new factory…in Tijuana.

Boxer spends almost all her time in Washington, D.C. and Marin County, so she is unfamiliar with how closely Southern California’s economy is linked with that of Mexico. It’s just across the border. Folks go there all the time. Goods and services go back and forth.

In fact, Mexico is the prime destination for California exports. We send them computers, software, medical devices, movies, etc. They send us oil, food, and manufactured goods such as those made by HP.

It’s called free trade. It’s called prosperity.

A lot of Latino families on both sides of the border depend on such friendly, free trade. Our economies thrive on it. If the government followed what Boxer is hinting at and imposed protectionism, our economies would be harmed even more than they have been by her policies. She has backed Obama’s socialist medical scheme, his tax increases, and his wild “bailout” spending — which means taxing Main Street to bail out her fatcat buddies on Wall Street.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not backing Fiorina because she supports the Bush-Obama wars, as does Boxer. I’m just pointing out how what an economic illiterate and demagogue Boxer is.

It’s also a puzzle why any Latino supports Boxer. Well, I’m still wondering how anyone could support Bush, to cite a Republican example.

Meanwhile, as California collapses, the media are fixated on Carly’s catty comment about Babs’ hairdo.
