Drunken deputies on the job

Steven Greenhut: The police officer who gives you a speeding ticket or DUI might be drunk[1], according to the Los Angeles County independent review department. This is not an anomaly, but a growing problem within the department (and probably within other police and sheriff departments), per the LA times: “Alcohol-related incidents involving department employees have increased this year, according to findings released by the county Office of Independent Review. There were 33 incidents from January through May, more than in the same period last year, including several cases in which deputies were found to be drunk on duty.”

This is to be expected given professional courtesy and all the many protections law enforcement officials extend to fellow members of the Brotherhood.
