First off they set the emission standards, now they are going against what they set, it sounds like CARB isn't doing their job effectively this should have been addressed when the catalyst converter was mandated yet they failed to acknowledge Diesel engines emit harmful emissions now their ignorance imposes emergency on the consumer, that's not acting in good faith this agency should be shut down and EPA standards should be all we need what makes us so different from the rest of the nation especially with CARB'S tarnished reputation, yet nothing is done and this rediculous regulation keeps moving forward. This is so wrong , CARB failed on doing their job diligently and now the trucking industry is held holding the bag to clean up their mess. Wow unbelievable.

Dr. Engstrom had the guts to stand up to CARB at a recent forum and put forth crediable evidence that diesel particulant matter was not as harmful as the other 10 panel members would have us believe. While most of the science was way above my head the fact that so much funding for these "studies" comes directly from CARB is not lost on me.
Mary Nichols has said "regulators regulate that is what we do" It would be better if they solved problems using regulations that made sense were cost effective and in the end had a positive effect on the environment. Unfortunatly Mary is much happier surrounding herself with people who only tell her what she wants to hear and convincing the public that without CARB more and more of us would die each and every year. It would be nice if Mr. Logue would focus some of his attention on CARB as well as UCLA. UClA doesn't want to see the pie being split between Berkley,Davis and other institutions that take funding from CARB with more often than not a predetermined outcome.

cwalker, Its kind of ironic that you accuse Logue of being an alarmist ("The Sky is Falling"), when that is the primary tool of CARB, Steve Maviglio, & the other supporters of AB32(AKA- The "Kill 1 Million Jobs so Arnold Can Be Remembered For Something" Bill)

I am proud of Dan's Logue leadership on the AB 32 issue and also stepping end to help this professor. Flushing your fellow academic for not agreeing with your political views is the hieght of hypocrisy and intellectual shame.

If they follow up and are succesful in getting their fellow professor fired, I would just close down the entire department and put them on the Freeway off ramps begging for money.

King Obama fired over 700 Chrysler dealers because they are Republicans. He is setting a good example for other liberal elitists to flush their competition down the toilet. I say, flush Obama...and flush twice because it is a long way to Chicago.

CARB is the most Autocratic government entity that I know of. They routinely thumb their noses at attempts to oversee them by the Legislature. Their mission is important, but I would not shed a tear to see CARB dismantled and rebuilt in a form that answers to the People they're charged with protecting.

Another interesting piece of this situation, not noted in this article, is that the Head of CARB, is also on faculty at UCLA, in this department, and was a voting member of the secret panel that recommended termination of Dr. Engstrom. Does anyone smell conflict of interest or backroom deal?
