I have been voting since the age of twenty-one and am seventy-seven now. I served thirty-three years in the military and was often in foreign locations when I voted. I was taught you vote because you researched the candidates and issues carefully and made a conscious decision about your vote. If these students don't have time, OR AMBITION to go to the polls, or use the absentee vote method to vote, how can they do the homework to assure they are voting from the head and not from the heart, or how SOMEONE advised them to vote. This is just another typical California politician pandering to the public. No wonder some people subscribe to the idea of "A Nation of Victims" (read the book by Charles Sykes, St. Martin's Press/Griffin, 1993)

Just another dumb idea in a state full of them.

When I turned 18, back in the Stone Age, I got up and first thing in the morning registered to vote.

Of course, I've been voting in almost every election for 37 years and things have kept getting worse. Not that you can blame my candidates -- almost every one a third-party loser.

Maybe Meg had the right idea. Don't vote. Ignored politics. Make a billion dollars. Buy a governorship.
