Anthony Pignataro:
8:32 p.m. — The California Secretary of State’s office is a quiet place right now, mostly because the official election returns website[1] has crashed. Those numbers that are appearing in the media seem to be coming directly from county election centers.
There’s not much to do here right now but sit back and listen to Allie, the official media center spokesperson, field calls from reporters across the state:
“This is typical for an election,” she tells them. “No results have been posted. I’d be happy to shoot you an e-mail if you’d like once there are results.”
The operative word in all this is “typical”…
