No wonder businesses are closing their doors and many are still looking for jobs. I have friends who have been out of work for over a year. This is not the beginning. Businesses are going to continue to leave and more people will be out of work. The government is becoming more powerful but they are also firing employees...eventually our government will be modeled after some 3rd world country with high power distance and only a few key governmental people will have any wealth. The rest of us will just continue to work to make them more powerful. Every once in a while they will throw us a bone or two. This makes me sad. We have turned the American Dream into a nightmare.

Hmmm

So gas prices go up, maybe dramatically. Businesses add a surcharge to cover the cost, so the price of goods goes up.
Some businesses freak out and leave the state. Some people panic and leave the state. Less jobs in a beat down economy, encouraging more people to leave.
Population of Ca goes down, price of houses goes down, price of rent goes down, number of cars on the road goes down.
Maybe the state becomes a ghost town? Or it all turns into south-central LA?
or
Air quality improves, technology continues to improve, cars become more efficient. Some groups of smart folks create new companies to take advantage of the location and vacuum of services.
Maybe the state becomes a leader in green technology? (along with computer technology, bio-tech, medicine and entertainment)

Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico are looking fantastic as my new base of operations. I can telecommute from there just as easily as I can from here.
I'm already talking with the lawyers to layoff the crew unless they move with me, sorry guys.

Don't worry John Stoos, you'll get clobbered too.Just think, every time I drive my truck into this state,I'll gladly throw on a serious surcharge. You might not get it at the fuel pump, but you'll get it with higher prices on everything else. Most trucking companies are already getting ready for the surcharge. And YOU can move to another state yourself, there will be 48 you could move to,just stay out of mine.
