"I’ve yet to hear him talk about the fairness of the current system, in which public employees retire at early ages, often with millionaires’ pensions, while those in the private sector must work 15 years or more longer and retire with far less, or who must depend on a Social Security system that resembles an unsustainable Ponzi scheme."
Are you kidding? I work for the government and I don't know a soul who's retiring as a millionaire! As for working for 15 years,I've already worked for 25 years and still can't afford to retire for another five years! I read an article by Marcia Fritz in the Los Angeles Times. She is supposed to be a "Retirement Expert". She doesn't even know that most government workers don't get social security. As for contracting out and privatization, does this mean more American jobs shipped overseas? Unions not only protect our benefits, but they protect us from discrimination based on things like age, race, religion, political affiliation etc. It's a well know fact that private employees have no rights and can be fired for any reason. This is nothing but a power grab. From what I see, corporate America is doing everything in it's power to screw the middle class. Government jobs represent the last vestion of hope for a decent life for the average person.
