When I was called by a reporter before the poll was publicly released, my first reaction was that I was very surprised based on the recent voting patterns. I told her that I wanted to see the poll because as the author so correctly points out - you can spin the numbers.

This shows us that once again the press and liberal government are so tight in bed together it is hard to tell where one body ends and the other begins. What ever happened to the motto the press was there to protect the public's right to know the truth and hold government accountable to that public. We should all be thankful for CalWatch Dog for following the old motto.

The results from my very small sample of respondents is they are thinking of leaving the state. These few business associates have all said the same thing. They like life here, had never before considered leaving, but are now seriously considering doing so.

If these taxes are continued another five years, I suspect people on the bubble will leave for greater liberty. Who will be left to pay these taxes? In other words, can CA tax public employees and the unemployed high enough to meet its budget needs?

With business and residents fleeing the state, is Sacramento blind, deaf or dumb or all three? Common sense would say they would all be voted out of office at the earliest opportunity. You now know the reason why they remain in office.

I certainly hope this excellent response to PPIC's nonsense poll gets the full and widespread attention it deserves.
I found the PPIC survey to be absolutely INFURIATING. Mark Baldassare probably curses computers when he comes out with stuff like this, because it seems to me the whole point of producing such a misleading piece of garbage is so that a 35-page sheaf of paper can land with a THUD on someone's desk. The thud gives the impression that the report is important when it is actually empty.
Apparently the entire purpose and hoped-for net result of this PPIC busy work has already been realized in the five seconds of news blurb I heard on the radio last night that "Californians would be willing to pay more in taxes to support K-12 education --- but not prisons."

I would be surprised if voters approve the extension of "temporary" taxes if it does get on the ballot and if they do pass it, California's problems will be far worse a year or two in the future.
