I must completely agree with Ronnie. I, too worked in public schools for many many dedicated years. I saw known behavior problems purposely grouped in some classes to help the "expensive" teacher choose retirement. Another has annual Grand Canyon and DC trips yet the chaperones are always the same "club" members. This did change one year when a very ATTRACTIVE blond joined the staff. The request of the science teacher who was an outdoors and history expert was ignored. I hope the voters in Redwood City are not foolish enough to pass the parcel TAX looming on the horizon.

While I agree with everything in the article, now schools will waste government money/taxes now instead of redevelopment. As a retired teacher with over 30 years working in the public schools, I can tell you from experience, it's not about the money. The "good old boys network" is alive and functioning well in public education. Many teachers who raise test scores are harassed by their principals/school administrators who fear losing federal money and control. There is no incentive to raise test scores when money is continually funneled to "underperforming" schools. The PARS program is frequently used to get rid of experienced teachers who raise test scores and who are at the high end of the salary schedule. Supervisors intimidate good teachers to the point where they retire, I've seen it happen several times and have knowledge it goes on in districts other than the one I worked in. School boards are either naive or go along with school administrations rather than get to know what's going on by talking to the teachers. In my district, school board members were "escorted" around school sites and seldom, if ever, spoke to teachers without administrative oversight.

I am absolutely in awe of how your articles consistently, clearly, and knowedgeably shed light on issues that would otherwise leave most Californians completely in the dark. Keep up the great work.
