California will not dig itself out of this hole - not with the public employee unions, who are the main cause of the problems, being in even firmer control of state government with their good friend Jerry Brown now in the top office.

Instead, while Brown, the legislature and the unions continue to dig furiously, a sea of debt will wash across the state, filling the hole and flushing out all that hunker down in the hole. It will be sort of like your mother washing your mouth out with soap - a cleansing flush, but bitter tasting for awhile.

Unemployment may go to 15-20 percent, schools will be closed and many government services shut down. Voters will wonder what went wrong, but in due time the plunging poll numbers of Brown and the spendthrift legislators will indicate that voters are learning what generations before have learned...we can't spend our way to prosperity, we have to produce our way there.
