Free Barry Bonds!

[1]John Seiler:

The Feds have dropped six felony counts[2] against former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds, baseball’s all-time home-run leader. But this:

Bonds now faces four charges of perjury and one charge of obstruction of justice, all in connection with his testimony before the grand jury that investigated the BALCO sports steroid scandal in 2003.

That’s a good lesson for all of us: Never talk to the government. Ever. Even with your lawyer present. Just plead the Fifth[3]. Even now, in Police State Amerika, you have a right not to incriminate yourself. Just clam up.

Martha Stewart also made the mistake of talking to the Feds while not under oath, and ended up in the hoosegow for it[4]. Ladies, you’re not exempt, either, from Federal assaults.

This also is one of the more absurd cases brought by our increasingly brutal and lawless Federal regime. What business is it of theirs if Bonds allegedly used steroids? And why did they allegedly trick him into allegedly perjuring himself (allegedly)? Doesn’t the Federal regime have better things to do, such as losing its war in Afghanistan[5]?

This persecution of Barry also is wasting millions of federal taxpayer dollars. But these federal Vishinskys [6]don’t care that the Federal debt already has zoomed up to $14 trillion — and counting[7].

The Feds actually have no jurisdiction in California on this matter. As I described in my article on the Constitution[8], the Feds have abused the few powers granted them under that document, expanding their “authority” to totalitarian proportions. The Federal government now is so huge and powerful it makes the old Soviet Union[9] look like Switzerland.

The charges against Barry are that he lied. But it’s clear he didn’t, according to this story[10].

Moreover, if the Feds want to jail someone for lying, how about just about every politician in Congress, the President, Supreme Court “justices,” and thousands of bureaucrats?

As to Bonds’ alleged steroid use, doing so was legal at the time according to Major League Baseball’s rules [11](although not now). That’s all that should matter.

We Californians should take action protecting Barry. The Legislature should pass a law expelling the Federal commissars from our fair state.

And Major League Baseball should take action by immediately inducting Barry into its Hall of Fame.
