Seiler Plan to Balance the Budget

[1]John Seiler:

Why didn’t somebody think of this before? Balancing the state budget is easy. I call it the Seiler Plan to Balance the Budget.

The  budget deficit is $25 billion. Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed $13 billion in budget cuts.

He also wants $12 billion in tax increases[2]. Now, $12 billion is 14 percent of the $86 billion general-fund budget.

So, here’s the plan:

1. Make the $13 billion in budget cuts Gov. Brown already has proposed.

2. Cut an additional 14 percent from the budget, across the board.

The key to this ingenious plan is the last part: the cuts are across the board. Everything is cut: salaries, benefits, pensions, purchases, rent, supplies — everything.

Now, anybody who has experience with government knows that at least 50 percent of all government spending is pure waste. I’ve worked for two local governments and was in the U.S. Army for four years, so I have first-hand experience of the “50 percent government waste rule.”

Cutting everything a mere 14 percent wouldn’t even be felt in the actual services government provides to the people our servants claim they serve.

The Seiler Plan: it’s incisive, conclusive and easy. Just what California needs.
