I have an unusual situation, I bought a car one year ago today and just received a notice that my registration has been referred to the State Board of Equalization for collections. They say that my registration was due on 01/02/2011. Since when is the registration of a vehicle not good for one year? Also, why didn’t I receive a notice back in January? I literally have perfect credit and have never failed to pay the state on any obligation I’ve had. I have a sneaky suspicion that this is part of a “revenue enhancement” program to help reduce the budget gap. Actually, it sounds more like extortion to me!

I also plan to travel to Canada in July. Will I be allowed across the border with my vehicle with expired tags?

My registration is due July 1, so I am stuck.

Put the pension taxes on the ballot-bring em on, they will go down by a 2 or 3 to 1 margin.

The poor and middle class have had it supporting mutli million dollar retire at age 50 pensions.

It will be amusing to see the spin they dream up when they are sending out IOU’s because they are broke, yet they are refusing to accept car taxes that are owed.

Mine’s due in July, and I was looking forward to paying the lower rate. Now this. They hate us.

The way to get around driving in another state with expired Calif. tags, as described in the article, is to fly to Las Vegas and rent a car there. It saves wear and tear on your regular car.

Or just leave California.
