Steinberg Proves He's a Union Hack

[1]John Seiler:

As if we needed more proof, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg showed that his philosophy of government is: of the government unions, by the government unions, for the government unions.

Taxpayers are just slaves who pay for everything. Their children are hostages.

As Katy Grimes reported two days ago[2], Steinberg’s AB 114[3] would ban layoffs of teachers. Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law. If local school districts come up short of funds, they can cut days off the school year. So, local control of schools is reduced again to meet extravagant union demands.

Steinberg now is defending the bill[4]:

We were intentional,” Steinberg said during a meeting with The Bee Capitol Bureau. “We do not want to create a situation where more teachers and classified employees lose their jobs. And we did not want to see¬†class sizes[5]¬†increase.”

But what if there’s no money? This is the same kind of foolishness that always gets the state in fiscal trouble. Good times lead to profligate spending. In bad times, drastic cuts must be made. And screams of “tax increases” fill the state.

And if the state has to pull the “trigger” on budget reductions next January, because revenues aren’t strong enough, funds will be cut to schools? How will the schools deal with that?

According to Wikipedia[6], “Steinberg worked as an Employee Rights Attorney for the California State Employees Association for 10 years….”

So, for him, it’s all about the unions. The taxpayers of California? Just shut up and pay.

And Jerry Brown, of course, had his campaign rescued last year when the California Teachers Association took out ads backing him. So the CTA owns Jerry.
