The truth is that Silicon Valley is a textbook case of what is wrong with California. Other than government workers, the middle class has been eviscerated. What's left are low-wage "New" Economy service workers, a shadow illegal immigrant workforce, the majority of America's H1-B visa workforce, and the "Central Casting" Nordic/Eastern European college-educated executives.

I actually agree with part of what beezlebub says. The part about promising unions and social services far more than we could pay in the best of economic times. We voters have to take some of the blame for voting ourselves bene's the government can't possibly deliver.
But about bashing the banks? Remember, it was democrats jon corzine and soros who looted MF global. And they are both bankers. And fanny may and freddie mac who were run into the ground by mostly slugs appointed by dems ( and repubs too, but mostly dems.). And the repubs certianly kept there mouth shut while they knew terrible banking practices were going on there.
And instead of throwing the crooked bankers in jail back in 09, Obummer gave them bailouts(tarp). But Bush shut down the SEC and refused to prosecute Madoff.
I agree with ann barnhardt when she says we ought to have the death penalty for some economic crimes. Madoff and Corzine to start off with. When you steal billions and nearly crash whole country's economies they ought to catch a needle. Now, at most, they may spend some time in club fed.

To cut to the chase, the underlying problem is that our politicians (dem and pub) took payoffs from special interest groups and knowingly made unsustainable promises to large groups of people that could not possibly be honored. Today they are dipping into the trust funds of those guaranteed programs to finance yet additional programs that were subsequently promised. And, in the end, we are left with a growing mountain of IOU's that can't be paid.

Listen, when the money changers on Wall Street are able to pay off our most powerful politicians and in return get granted immunity from the laws of capitalism and the criminal justice system - the integrity of the entire system is gone. We're done. Poof.

You are percipient witnesses to what will later be historically noted as the decline of one of the world's greatest superpowers.
