Sugar is metabolized and stored as fat the same way as alcohol. It is contributing to Americas — and dare I write, the developed worlds’ — increasing waistlines. It seems as though the only way consumers will pay attention to the additives in their food, including sugar and corn syrup, is for them to take a hit to the wallet in the process. Unfortunately, this will disproportionately affect the lower classes because processed foods are also the cheapest. Equating the scientists’ argument to “driving while drunk” is ridiculous, almost as much as crediting a scientist’s proposal to tax as that of Obamas.
