Michael Warnken the author of this article went to jail as a juvenile for punching his own father. Interesting to read his opinion here given his own history and how he has been practicing law without a license pretending to be an advocate.

There is an interesting dichotomy here. When running for elected office the candidates insist on making the case that they are, in fact, just one of “you guys” doing his/her civic duty. But let them get involved in some misconduct in office they insist on being judged by their “peers” – other elected officials – instead of the “you guys” that elected them to office. Hmmmmm.

Come on, Michael. You know how the game is played. If they want to get rid of someone who rocks the boat or who is not part of the ‘big club’ they always find a way to do it – like they did with the SF Sheriff.

But if a ‘club member’ commits a crime or illegally violates in-house policy – either it is covered up or they convene an ad-hoc committee that whitewashes the entire act.

You have to understand. This SF Sheriff was a new guy who didn’t have any dirt on the others. So he was hung out to dry.

But there is MUCH more to this story that we don’t know about.

@Beelzebub: I agree with you here. I happen to believe that if the wife did not want to press charges, the only way to press charges is by a grand Jury. With that said, he had to have done something else to raise everyone’s hackles. What I am most interested in is the process. Here, we have the right process going on, perhaps not for the right reason, but it is the right process.

@Michael Warnken, Legally it remain to be seen if those events that occurred prior to the new sheriff’s being sworn in, counts as on the job misconduct. Thanks.

That sheriff must have stepped on the wrong toes. Either that or he was a political pariah.

99% of other PD’s in California would have covered up that domestic violence incident. Either that or blamed it on the wife. Let’s get real here.

Was the SF County sheriff anti-pension or something? What put him on the crap list?
