"Let’s leap into an exciting future of NO taxes"

Love ya, John. But you've living in an idealistic nirvana just like the liberals. We have to set realistic goals. I liked Lennon too but his philosophical pie-in-the-sky babble in "Imagine" are simply not meant for this world. We human beings just aren't genetically designed that way. It's like expecting a cat to bark. It ain't going to happen. You'll just end up disappointed. Let's set practical goals. Ones that can actually get achieved. That's where it's at!

"But if we didn’t have taxes, it wouldn’t be complex!"

Do you recommend we go back to the horse and buggy days?

That's the nature of humankind, John. Man continues building bigger buildings and bigger airplanes and bigger freeways to accomodate bigger cars. Put 9 million people in a densely packed geographic area and you have instant complexity. If you want to change that you are going to have to kill off half the population. Reproduction = Complexity.

My only argument here is that we must live within our means and pay for services with today's dollars. Not tomorrow's dollars. And that the people should be the final arbiters of what programs we fund and how much we give. If they want to maintain what we presently have - then all must pay more in taxes. If not, the tax rates go down.

It's that easy. Not complex at all.

"Not sure if Willie ever did a song about taxes, but he did an entire album called “The IRS Tapes” to pay off his debt to the IRS in the 80′s. Great album, btw…"

Why would he write a protest song against taxes? The IRS had him dead to rights for $16M or more. heh. Would you bite the hand of your master when he held a hammer over your head?

I am surprised that the IRS didn't force him to compose a tune called "Mama, don't let your children grow up to be tax cheats".

Willie is one of the biggest liberals on the planet. For God sakes - why all the accolades on a conservative web site?

Does it mean that much to you if a man can carry a tune or dance?

The Hollywood appeal in this country is beyond absurd.

Jeff: Thanks. I'll check that out. My favorite Willie album is "Red Headed Stranger."

I don't like all that slickly produced Nashville country stuff, but the rebel kind of a guy and a guitar, or a small band: Cash, Paycheck, Willie (usually), Hank 3, Merle and just about anybody from Bakersfield.

I've never been a guy who says "get rid of all taxes" like some do. That's foolish. We need taxes to support this complex society. My beef is that we need to live witin our means. There needs to be an intervention in this society - just like when a family member is addicted or out of control. The collective citizenry needs to decide - by vote - exactly what we are and aren't willing to pay for in the present tense. Costs and allocations need to be established for all services. And once the money runs out - that service ceases to function until more money is voted in BY THE PEOPLE!. If we decide to maintain what we have today - or more - then taxes must be raised on EVERYONE! If we decide to make big cuts in the big tax money grabbers like defense, gov salaries & pensions, welfare, medicare, social security, subsidies to the financial criminals and crony capitalists, etc...then those cuts must commence forthwith without undue handwringing in congress. And the savings must be tranferred back to the citizens in form of lower tax rates. The bottom line is if we don't have the money to pay for ot TODAY we don't get it. Simple.

As far as celebrities go - most are no different than politicians or crony capitalists. When they get into a jam they expect special favors and/or bailouts. They expect others to pay for their mistakes. They don't want to take it on the chin like JoeSixPack. That's BS. And people who are star struck and in awe of these leeches need to open their eyes.
