So Assemblywoman Shannon Grove introduced a package of three easily-understandable bills to reform the legislature, but the Democrats rejected them in committee. And Assemblywoman Grove is simultaneously pushing a state ballot measure to institute a part-time legislature. This is a very shrewd strategy. Now she can tour the state using the rejection of these bills as a basis to argue for voters to impose fundamental change in the operations of the legislature. That's the kind of bold thinking we need from the Republicans in this state.

Poor Assemblymember Portantino, for him, no good deed goes unpunished, placing him in the same category as the minority party in the Legislature, see http://bit.ly/JFRxM7 , when Democratic strategist Steve Maviglio took to using the Ad Hominem fallacy attack against Dakin Sloss, President of California Common Sense, an open government, nonprofit organization brought into a press conference to defend Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, against charges that the assembly had manipulated budget numbers to make him (Portantino) look bad.
Strike that, Katy. I found it. My brain grew since my last post. :)

Wow. Grove really got steamrolled, eh? That Swanson character is sure a piece of work. He is allowed to ask Grove questions and get an answer - but when Grove answers the question and responds with another question in rebuttal Swanson is silent as a deaf-mute. I see now how the game is played in Sactown. There are 2 teams but one is forced to play perpetual defense while the other one always has the ball on offense. Even if the offensive team fumbles the ball and LOSES IT, the ball is given back to them for a brand new set of downs.

Pretty darn amazing. This state is hopelessly on a course to meltdown with nothing really standing in the way. A straight shot right over the cliff. It's like watching that show on TV w/videos of high drama accidents, crimes or disasters. You see it coming and helplessly yell from your chair "Watch out!" to no avail. Contacting Sactown with lucid observations and suggestions to avert disaters is like warning a zombie of impending doom. All you get is a blank stare with a little smirk.

Thanks for the link, Katy. Which item is it??? There are dozens listed. I searched for the Labor and Employment Committee but couldn't find anything.

And thank you for bringing this one to our attention. Otherwise I would have known nothing about it. It seems that nothing good comes out of Sactown. It's the bezzle capital of the western hemisphere.

Yes Beelz - all of the bills were voted down along party lines. And, the Grove bill with the hostile amendments was ramrodded through by Dems over Grove's objections. Swanson and Alejo just kept talking over her, and denied any further discussion on the bill.

Here is the video link - it's April 18, 2012 in the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee - if you see legislators making a mockery of the system, spend some time watching the video of the hearing (fast forward the video to about 3:45)

Let's face it. These legislator swine are anti-transparency and anti-open government. And there is only one reason for that. They promote secrecy and hiding information that should be accessible by the electorate. It doesn't matter what they say. Words mean nothing is Sactown. All you need to do is watch their BEHAVIOR and ACTIONS. That will tell you everything you need to know.

Katy, were these bills voted down in committee strictly on party lines, dems voting against and repubs voting for?

Did any repubs vote against? Names?

Again, to show that I am fair and balanced my hat comes off for Democrat Assemblyman Portantino. The poor man must feel like a seal swimming in a pod of killer whales.
