"And yes SKdog, I did a stint in the USN, but in no way would I consider myself a hero for doing a task I signed up to do"

You and me both, Mr. Donkey. No one forced me to go in. I did it entirely upon my own volition. And when I mention to someone that I was in the military once and they give that knee-jerk phrase "Thanks for serving" in return I always tell them that when I went into the service as a kid I enlisted mostly for selfish reasons - to get the GI Bill so I could pay for college. I told them I never intended to make a career of it. And I tell them it was totally voluntary. So I always tell them that there's no reason to thank me. Most are left speechless afterwards. ;)

Personally, I can't stand former military who act like they deserved to be worshipped as hero figures. Whenever I come across them I never hesitate to dress them down.

So true OCO!

The RAGWUS is so full liers and cheats that only the most dishonest man could ever rise to the top. Everywhere you look is filth, corruption, lying, hypocrisy, and cant,(I used the word "cant" in terms of the private language of hte underworld,) all set to the tune of patriotic music and propaganda slogans that bear about as much resemblance to reality as a Tom & Jerry cartoon. It's Orwell's "1984", with worse technology.

Look at the RAGWUS members all jumping ship to gorge themselves on $100,000 plus pensions. Look at the overly paid department heads at every city, county, and state agency, add in the $100,000 plus grunts of LE and FF's and it is clear how out of touch the RAGWUS is with reality.

Yea, SKdog may be a college professor, in fact I am quite sure he represents your average professor because he comes across just as I discribed in the paragraph above about Orwell.

And yes SKdog, I did a stint in the USN, but in no way would I consider myself a hero for doing a task I signed up to do. ;)

Don't forget, Mr. Donkey. Skipper is a college professor. He is one of America's intelligensia. We must bow down and show him respect because somehow he managed to slip through the cracks and probably fills innocent minds full of the same wretched garbage that he spouts on these boards. And some of these poor kids take out loans for $75,000 or more to listen to people like him!!! HAH! :D

Alas! What a failed nation we've become! :(

SKdog, did you ever read the book "Mig Pilot?" It gives great insight into the day to day workings of a "collectivist" bureaucracy to which you have so much praise. Because you spent so much of your life feeding off of others you have no basis in reality and thus unable to see the truth of my words.

Collectivists are vague and nebulous thinkers, they generalize and make sweeping conclusions rather than seeing the myriad of individual transactions, some good, some bad, some justified and proper, but most unjustified and improper. They are simpletons in that they over simplify history and economics and nearly everything else they think about. There is one aspect of the modern RAGWUS feeding "collectivist" that has never changed, and you are living proof. It is their own sense of grandeur, entitlement, self-importance and the lack of respect for folks that supply the wealth you greedy thieves. :)

There ya go, speaking in generalities again WITHOUT answering any of my questions or responding to any of the FACTS that I presented. That proves you got nothing as usual - nothing but hot air and lots of gas. Don't bother responding until you answer my question or respond to the posted facts, professor. Otherwise you just make yourself look like a village idiot and damage the reputation of colleges and universities from coast to coast.

I never claimed Marine Corp, Coast Guard or Navy. I told you I am a vet with an honorable discharged which is 100% true. That's all you need to know. I don't speak for Donkey. Direct your questions about his background directly to him. But I will tell you one thing. There is no doubt in my mind that my service to country and my achievements would make yours look like the equivalent of Sad Sack.

Apparently you can't tell when something is cited as a direct quote, so it's easy to see how you would think "offences" is misspelled.

The remainder of your vitriolic post merely enforces what I posted about your background and motivation earlier. You're nothing but a bitter and envious little man who tries to bully those who don't share your jaded view of our country and the world in which we live.

Try again, Beel, and see if you have the capacity to actually read and comprehend the information posted on the links provided. I think you're just too wrapped up in your own delusions to let facts ever get in the way of your rants, but that's the nice thing about America - as opposed to an authoritarian society like your model Singapore - the freedoms we have include the freedom to hold positions that make us look foolish, something you do with predictable regularity here and on other blogs.

Now, how about you tell us which service you really served in your military career. As I recall, you've at various times claimed the US Marine Corps, the US Coast Guard, and possibly the US Navy - although I admit I may be confusing you with Donkey on that last claim. You're either an undercover Rambo or just another bloviating boor who claims a service you've never really performed. I'd bet it's not Rambo....

"I’ve provided far more service to my country than you even dream about, and I have been fortunate to be rewarded for my loyalty and commitment"

You have no idea what I've done with my life. You speak from ignorance. That's what you do best, professor. And you've helped suck the country dry. You are one insect in the swarm that cleaned out the harvest. But it takes a village. You are as guilty as the rest.

"It’s too bad bitter old fools like you didn’t do something more with your lives"

Again, you have no idea what I've done with my life. But if you did you would bow in honor.

"Singapore has one of the most repressive governments of any “open” nation"

You're full of it. Singapore has consistently and repeatedly been voted by international councils and agencies by one of the freest and least corrupted economies on the globe. Again, not surprisingly, you speak from ignorance, professor.

Singapore has "rule of law" that is actually enforced. It has one of the lowest crime rates in any civilized nation. God bless them. Singapore is a FREE nation - but if you commit heinous crimes you are going to pay for it bigtime. That's the way a government should be run. You are obviously a dyed in the wool liberal - and that's been made clear in many of you opinions. You should be President of "Move On". And, quite frankly, I wish you would. :)

"Singapore retains both corporal punishment (in the form of caning) and capital punishment (by hanging) as punishments for serious offences"

That's good. We should have the same in America. That's one reason our jails are packed. Because we don't. BTW, professor, you spelled "offences" wrong. It's "offenses". You are not british either. So don't use that excuse. Chalk it up to more ignorance. ;)

Naturally you FAILED to mention that in Singapore POVERTY IS AN ABERRATION! Another sign of a well developed and well managed society.

Foiled again, Professor!!!

Again, the fact that you are a college professor embarrasses me as an American citizen. Just so you know! :D

The world laughs at us because they read wingnut nonsense from posters like you, Beel.

On this Memorial Day, it doesn't really matter if you despise me or not. I've provided far more service to my country than you even dream about, and I have been fortunate to be rewarded for my loyalty and commitment.

It's too bad bitter old fools like you didn't do something more with your lives. I guess the constant reminders of "what might have been" gnaw at your insides and feed your belligerence toward those of us who've actually accomplished something for our country and for ourselves.

Singapore has one of the most repressive governments of any "open" nation. Remember that the penalty there for selling chewing gum or failing to flush a public toilet is caning, but you probably like the idea of that because behind your libertarian rhetoric is nothing more than a yearning for authoritarian government. Here's an example from your newest favorite source:

"Although the legal system of Singapore is a common law system, the criminal law of Singapore is largely statutory in nature. The general principles of criminal law, as well as the elements and penalties of common criminal offences such as homicide, theft and cheating, are set out in the Penal Code. Other important offences are created by statutes such as the Arms Offences Act, Kidnapping Act, Misuse of Drugs Act and Vandalism Act.

In addition, there is a perception that Singapore society is highly regulated through the criminalization of many activities which are considered as fairly harmless in other countries. These include failing to flush toilets after use, littering, jaywalking, the possession of pornography, the sale of chewing gum, and sexual activity; such as oral and anal sex between men. It has been claimed that one of the results of such heavy regulation is that Singapore has one of the lowest incidences of violent crimes in the world. A catchphrase recently used in a police anti-crime campaign was "Low crime does not mean no crime".

Singapore retains both corporal punishment (in the form of caning) and capital punishment (by hanging) as punishments for serious offences. For certain offences, the imposition of these penalties is mandatory. More than 400 people were executed in Singapore, mostly for drug trafficking, between 1991 and 2004. Statistically, Singapore has one of the highest execution rates in the world relative to its population, surpassing Saudi Arabia.[13] Science fiction writer William Gibson famously described Singapore as "Disneyland with the death penalty"."

It's amusing that you would find your model of a "good government" in such a repressive society. So much for your claim of wanting freedom for everyone.

"Singapore has a smaller population than Orange County, and its budget is about 40% of California’s general fund"

What's that got to do with anything, professor? You asked which nations have better run governments than the US. I told you.

And you didn't even mention the other nations I mentioned (besides Singapore)because you know I'm right.

Big is not necessarily better. The US is the BIGGEST DEBTOR NATION IN THE WORLD. Singpore had a budget surplus of 1.7% in 2010. The US had a budget deficit of 10-12%. Singapore's GDP growth in 2010 was 17.5%. The US was close to being in negative numbers on growth in 2010.

Singapore's Debt to GDP ratio is LESS than ours.

Singapore's HIGHEST tax rates for individuals in 20%.

Singapore's government has virtually eliminated murder, rape, or other violent crimes in their country. Drug crimes are rare too! People are safe walking down any Singapore street @ 2am on a Saturday night. ANY STREET. Try that in east LA.

Naturally, you failed to mention any of this that I posted in my last comment. So I will repeat it for all to see:

Singapore is the 14th largest exporter in the world. It runs a huge trade and current accounts surplus. It has the highest trade to GDP ratio in the world. It has the highest percentage of millionaires in the world – over 15%. Singapore is the ONLY asian nation with AAA ratings from the big 3 agencies: Moodys, Fitch and S&P. It has a ridiculously low crime rate. You can walk down any street in Singapore with dollars hanging from your pockets and feel completely safe. Poverty in Singapore is an ABERRATION! According to studies, it is one of the economically freest and LEAST CORRUPT nations in the world.

"I served in the USAF for six years and yes, I did buy that military time to increase my pension. That means you should thank me even more"

Oh, so you stood out in a field and guarded C141's at night, eh??? I bet you never even heard a shot fired in you entire 6 years too! heh. And had you hear one you probably would have high tailed it in the opposite direction. heh. I got nothing to thank you for. As a matter of fact, I despise you for putting the state and nation further in debt out of personal greed and avarice.

The fact that you're a college professor in America embarrasses me. It just goes to show how far the state of education has fallen in America. No wonder the world laughs at us. :)
