Assault weapons – wow what a word. Let me see if we changed the appearance to a hunting rifle which operates in the same fashion, does that make you feel better? People who are criminals will use what is available… a .22 rifle can kill…

Your ideas throw the constitution out the window. Let’s see SCOTUS determines the interpretation of the 2nd amendment – you say assault weapons bans should be constitutional… is that anything like Obamacare is supported by SCOTUS yet I think its unconstitutional.

What really is insulting is no one focusing on the underlying issue which is the mental health of the shooter. Mental health care in this country is an appalling mess. Why isn’t that focused on rather than the method of the shooter?

WOW, you really seem like a militia man!!! Listen rambo,The Second Amendment does not establish a right to bear assault weapons. States are not banned from imposing gun control restrictions. This has been the law throughout American history.If the states wanted to say no citizen has the legal right to possess an assault weapon, or say that possession of an assault weapon by a civilian is a serious felony, it would be completely within their power to do so, as a legitimate government interest. As long as they did not ban all firearms.When is ENOUGH going to be ENOUGH with you gun fanatics?Columbine. Virginia Tech. Gabby Giffords.Seal beach, And now Aurora (among many others). It is time to wake up. We have a culture of gun violence that is unlike any other in the world. It results in almost double the amount of deaths that occurred in Aurora each and every day.Assault weapons like the AR-15 have one purpose. It is to efficiently kill human beings. They have a legitimate function in the hands of the military and in law enforcement (in certain circumstances). But the state has an obligation to protect the health, safety, and general welfare, and a ban on these types of weapons is not only constitutional – it is essential!!!!!!!!!!

Gerbil— No one wants to stop you from guns for home protection—- but there is a ton of gun conrtrol that could be had to eliminate mass murder aids like assault rifles, extended clips and background checks…..

First off,

I am so sorry for the victims and their families of the shooting.

NTHEOC,

Just because someone owns an “Assault weapon” does not mean they are a lunatic. Are you going to protect my house in an emergency?

If the light switch to our supply chain for all goods in the US is turned off (for whatever reasons) what are you going to do to protect your home?

Have you ever thought of what it would be like if the supply chain stopped? No gas for any vehicles, no food shipments to your local grocery store/walmart/ etc? No water being “pumped” to your house?

If the electricity is off for a long period of time? Walmart & every store will be empty in days. We are no different than hamsters in a cage and when the food, water (being brought to us)is stopped (supply chain) to the cage the hamsters are left to fend for themselves.

I will laugh if you have $250,000 in your bank account and the ATM’s & banks are not open? How great is your savings treating you then? You can wipe your a$$ with your dollars because it is only “paper” and worth nothing if no stores are open.

When 30 gang bangers with guns come knocking down your door after the stores are all dried up (your home is now the walmart) ,looking for food water and maybe a little fun if they want.

You will wish you had traded your Mercedes SUV for one assault weapon and rounds of ammo to protect your family.

I don’t give a rate a$$ about “open carry” I only have one concern protecting my home. The 30 gang bangers will know most homes are under-armed and will love the fact you do not have 1000’s of rounds of ammunition.

I am confident I can manage many, many gangs of fools but I am not a lunatic.
I am a normal hard working american proud of my 2nd amendment and I understand our food and water and fuel is brought to us like gerbils in a cage and can be turned off at any time. But I will not let anyone come in my house and take my food, water, wife and kids for fun etc.

“My home is protected by the good lord and a gun, you come over unwelcomed you might meet them both son”.

I have no problem with home protection or self protection, but the fact is you gun lunatics have no problem with people arming themselves like rambo!!Do you really need a fricken assualt weapon and thousands of rounds of ammo? Do you really need these things!! Again,It is legal in Aurora colorado to openly carry a firearm,yet tell me how great that worked for the mass shootings they have had? And no, they would have not had any chance at taking out your boy who legally had on full body armor and an arsenal of weapons that you support having!!!!!!!!!!

My grandmother gets questioned and denied online refills for prescribed health meds after 1 or 2,Yet people can get thousands of rounds of ammo and stock up on assualt weapons with no background checks!! Hmmmm?? So katy, I would like to see you sit bedside of the paralyzed mother whos 6 year old daughter was killed in that colorado theater and explain to her your support for guns and ammo!! Well hey, it’s just the norm these days right??
