There were still lots of farm there, before the war. My moms parents had a small house on a huge lot. It was fun to visit there for they had a garden, chickens, rabbits, plum and peach trees, ect. During the depression there were no food stamps. They grew there own food and canned it for the off season. I remember going to a grange club ( an agricultural club) meeting next door to their house. This was in the 60’s, still. Now the only chickens there are for cockfighting.
El Monte is a small town, a bedroom community. The notion that the police chief there makes more than the president is off the scale.
