I support that private citizens should be able to buy firearms to protect their home or business, but protection of the home or business does not require or justify the stockpiling of dozens of weapons (you only have two hands, how many guns can you fire at a time?) or the ability to purchase high-capacity assault weapons such as the semi-automatic assault rifle used by the gunman in Aurora, Colorado, which had a 100-round drum magazine capable of firing 50 to 60 rounds per minute. Those are not firearms used for self-defense, but military weapons used for shooting at armies, and in civilian hands, instruments of mass murder. The application of the Second Amendment to protect high impact weapons like these is unconscionable, beneficial only to homicidal maniacs and gun manufacturers, and ultimately, dangerous!!!!!!

4 little words… “…shall not be infringed.” These words are written in the same Bill of Rights that contain the Right to petition the government for redress. The same Bill of Rights that says that the government must have a warrant before seizing your property or entering your home. The same Bill of Rights that says that an accused person has the right not be forced to testify against himself. The same Bill of Rights that says that no one can be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment.

THE.
EXACT.
SAME.
BILL.
OF.
RIGHTS.

Yet somehow and to some people, THOSE Rights, which do not end with those 4 little words, are more important and inviolate than the Right that does.

There are those who say these ” military grade” weapons have no business in the hands of civilians. These are sporting rifles. Ordinary household weapons used for sport shooting, range shooting, as well as personal defense. They want to ban the 100, and 30 round magazine. But its an emotional attack on hardware. They want the magazines to be capped at ten rounds. Why ten? Why not eleven, or five? Are they saying its ok to kill only ten people? The public needs parity with the police. We face the same deadly criminals as they do. Are we going to limit the police to ten rounds. How many rounds do you deserve in order to stop a would be murderer? The infringed magazine is the soup de jour. Why on earth would we limit the lawful citizens to smallish ammo, fewer rounds and somehow still believe that the hardened criminal would abide by those standards? Guns are dangerous….. Guns are lethal… They are supposed to be. Anything that would make them less lethal would put you and police at an unacceptable risk. The tragedy here are these make believe “gun free zones”. Police aren’t stationed at the scene of an assault. The public should have every means necessary to defend human life. You are the first responder. The police show up in time to draw outlines of the bodies. Anti rights bigots will dance in the blood of victims to get any ban possible. Remember this, assault weapon was coined by the Clinton administration. Assault is a type of behavior, not hardware. Definition of assault weapon…. Actually, the killer in Aurora used an AR-15, which is NOT a “military-level weapon.” It’s a semi-automatic rifle that has the same functionality as any other semi-automatic rifle. You’re confusing it with an M-16, which is fully automatic, and illegal except under the most stringent conditions under federal law.

Also, Lott is not a “grifter,” but a respected scholar whose major work, “More Guns, Less Crime,” continues to be published in its third edition by the prestigious Chicago University Press.

Great Article Katy.

In 1993 my husband was beaten into a coma with a metal pipe by two juveniles ages 15 & 16 during a robbery of his business. He was in a coma for 41 days before passing away.

Most of the articles written in the press would say “HE HAD BEEN SHOT”
I would call and correct the media, but they never corrected the article.
I find it is the media who is pushing this ANTI-GUN issue and they make me sick. NO, not all crime is committed with a Gun, those with knifes, pipes
ropes, etc are more one on one and more brutal.

The pipe the juveniles used was a gas fireplace pipe. I went to Home Depot and purchased the same pipe…NO WAITING PERIOD, COST ONLY $9.99, I COULD BUY AS MANY AS I WANTED, NO TEST OR TRAINING, NO FORMS TO FILL OUT, AND I DIDN”T HAVE TO GIVE A THUMB PRINT…BEST OF ALL YOU GET LESS TIME IF YOU USE A PIPE. The 16 yr only received 1 yr extra for the use of a pipe. He was sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP.) Now victims in California who lost a loved one by a Juvenile killer sentenced to LWOP have to fight SB9 by Senator Yee and his friends to keep them in Prison. He feels they should have a 2nd chance…no concern for the victim. CALL your CA. Assembly member ASAP and ask for a vote of NO on SB 9. Visit http://www.teenkillers.org

Another excellent article Katy. Kudos for presenting the truth about gun ownership and the oppressive futility of gun control measures. Whenever I argue the subject with a gun hater I am always amazed at how childishly irrational and ignorant they are. I will forward your informative article to our two worthless, lying, scheming, 2nd Amendment hating Senators. Hopefully a well informed presentation of the facts will at least cause their evil heads to explode (metaphorically speaking of course). Keep up the good work and keep your powder dry.

P.S.
For those of you who care about your precious 2nd Amendment civil rights be forewarned! There are at least half of dozen gun control bills active in the Commiefornia Legislature right now. The worst of the bunch is SB 249, authored by the predictably hysterical and morally degenerate Senator Leeland Yee (Demonrat, San Francisco). This bill attempts to outlaw detachable magazine locking devices which are currently legal and in compliance with Commiefornia’s bysantine gun ban laws. Should it pass the legislature and be signed by Governor Clown it will make hundreds of thousands of lawful gun owners in this state instant felons. Call your legislators and tell them no on SB 249!
