The parallels between California Gov. Jerry Brown and 16th Century Pope Urban VIII are interesting.

Pope Urban VIII was born into a wealth family of political influence, was educated as a Jesuit, and received a degree in law. Brown was born into his family's political brand name, was a Jesuit, and a lawyer.

Pope Urban VIII declared astronomer Galileo a heretic for challenging the authority of the theocratic state. Brown has declared global warming "deniers" as political heretics to the secular state and its reigning myth of environmentalism.

Urban left the papacy with so much debt that it forced the city-state into military and economic decline. Writer Chriss Street has an article posted concurrently with this reporting how California sales taxes are down 33 percent. The predictions of economic decline due to government regulation are becoming more predictable than the so-called predictions of science about global warming.

So many restaurants and tortilla factories (God I love fresh warm corn tortillas) are run and owned by hispanic small businessmen. Because of the amount of carbs they use to run their ovens and stoves, how many of them will be 'carbed'(taxed) out of business. The Dems are committing economic genocide on their own economic base. They may just tax food out of existence. And a tax on food hurts the poorest by far.

From "Felicia" by email to the author

I think this article is another one that really helps to paint the picture of what the California Dem elitists (led by the "environmentalists") want more than anything else: To take all the land and money and power for themselves and parcel out token favors with an attitude of "noblesse oblige" to the people who actually support them but for whom they have disdain: the middle (and working) class. And this elite class includes the wealthy Dem politicians, who don't care about or probably even THINK about jobs or who does the real work that makes things run. After all, in their world, the servants know how to keep a low profile --- they are "seen and not heard and only speak when spoken to."
As you know.

In thinking about Lake Tahoe and how it works I realized that the area is no different from other places in California that you have written about: The apparent goal is EXCLUSIONARY (with INCLUSIONARY rhetoric). The goal is to EXCLUDE everyone but the rich elitists from access to Lake Tahoe and to keep out the "riff-raff." But because of dependence on the middle class tourist dollar, they must be tolerated but herded out of the way into the "ghettos" of the high-rise hotels and casinos in South Lake Tahoe. Under cover of "environmentalism," increasingly only the super-wealthy can afford to have access to the lake or have views of the lake because they are the ones who own the homes and can afford to vacation at the resorts that populate the majority of the waterfront. Well, again, as you know...

I thought it was noteworthy that this particular meeting of Jerry Brown and the global warming elitists took place in Stateline at the Edgewood Resort, a golf course with lodge and restaurant that I didn't even know about and hadn't seen or visited in 25 years of vacationing in Lake Tahoe because apparently it is the well-hidden (in plain sight) purview of the wealthy liberal class.
