Prison guards made $14K per year, and 3% of the CA budget went to prisons, 12% to CC, CSU and UC.

Today 12% of the budget goes to prison guards, 7-8%% goes to CC, CSU and UC and it costs $3500 a semester.

BTW, it is much harder to graduate from CSU and UC today than it was 40 years ago.

I graduated from the CSU system in 1968. At the time I graduated, my tuition per semester was less than $250.00. My books cost more than my tuition. I lived off campus. I had a part time job which paid all my expenses and did not owe a dime when I graduated with a 3.2 GPA. I took no bonehead courses in college. I could and can read, write and calculate higher math. There is something wrong with the system as more and more students entering college need remedial courses to get back to a basic skill level in the required skills. Granted, I graduated 44 years ago, but we as a state population are doing something wrong. This is now so costly a process and produces graduates without the minimal skills required to make a living.
