Wow, I knew there were people out there who believed the public education system was flawed but I never imagined how much hate some people had towards educators.

Dr. Walter Williams is dead on with that statement. Of course, I’m highly biased because I have an engineering degree and I believe that all colleges should make science and math education mandatory of all majors.

Colleges should also get rid of the worthless degree programs that are a waste of time & money and are useless to the holder and society at large.

Get rid of all xtra school activities including sports and baggy pantsing….as wells as
dressing like “Pretty Woman”.

Extend school 90 minutes for mandatory homework and tutoring.

If discipline problems, ship them to Apple’s factories in China for three months of intense work and inculturation.

I taught kindergarten, and the fact is it is extremely hard to deal with 20 or more 5 y/o, BUT we always had parent volunteers and teacher assistants and that worked out great, we would break into 3 groups of 6-8 and the kids got very personalized and specific instruction……..you don’t need smaller class sizes, you just need 1 or 2 parent volunteers and 1-2 assistants and that works out great.

Where else in the world can you get paid a fabulous salary plus benefits for being an eight hours a day 5 days a week zoo keeper?
Bob, NO TEACHER works 8 hours a day, unless they are preparing for or grading mid terms or finals. Teacher contracts are 37 week/year, and the contracted work week is 7 hours per day/36 hours per week.

Oh Teddyyyyy… you progressive surrender monkey….Teachers get “Masters” degrees in cream puff “Education” fields that are…well….cream puff. Many times they are “Pay for your A” type degrees from diploma mills like National University or University of Phoenix. And the degrees are worthless in the real world, the ONLY reason they get a Masters is to get higher pay, as the pay scale for teachers has two axis, years teaching (not skill level mind you) and the number of post baccalaureate units.

I went to Catholic grade school in a middle- to lower-middle class part of Ventura County in the late-60s early-70s.

Except for part-time assistants in 1st and 2nd grades, we had one teacher.

I looked at the class photos —-

Class sizes ranged from 52 in 3rd grade to 47 in 8th grade.

Easily two-thirds, and probably more, went on to college.
