SS was never meant to be a sole source of retirement income. It was meant to be a supplement, just like the original 401ks were intended to be. That was before the very rich realized that they could do away with the DB pensions and save all the millions at the top for themselves.

You still insist on comparing apples and oranges--just posting the same, tired figures hour after hour. I dare you to go out and haul in a group of people who retired with five years service--and list all those huge pensions they are getting.

My family is lower, middle class, getting just enough in retirement funds to pay the bills, thanks to the fact that between my spouse and me, we worked for 90 years. We are not taking one penny from anyone else.

Just be prepared to keep yourself away from sharp objects on November 7.

You aren't using apples to apples comparison, Rex. You are using apples to oranges. You don’t compare a 5-year public sector retirement with a 45-year SS pension.

That's RIGHT seesaw, you don't, but that is EXACTLY what you troughers try to do with you say the "average" CalPERS pension is $25K, because you're using 5 year employees in the average. And YES, there are PLENTY of 5 year retirees in the tough feeder work force, as that is what it takes to vest. FRAUD- it applies to any trougher who received a RETROACTIVE pension they didn't work for or earn, ad yes I will keep calling the criminals that because that is fraud.

If you use the EXACT same # of years worked, 30, 35 whatever the #, the CalTURDS pension is at LEAST 4-5 times more than SS, and at least 5-17 years sooner.

As for your family, your "family" is living high off the backs of the poor "families" who are stuck paying for that Cadillac lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Once again, the VERAGE CulTURES and CalSTRS pensions for those with 30 years in AS YOUNG AS AGE 50;

CalSTRS participants who retired during the 12 months ending June 30th, 2010 (the most recent data), earned pensions as follows:
25-30 years service, average pension $50,772 per year.
30-35 years service, average pension $67,980 per year.
35-40 years service, average pension $86,736 per year.

From the CalPERS Annual Report, page 151:
CalPERS participants who retired during the 12 months ending December 31st, 2009 (the most recent data), earned pensions as follows:

25-30 years service, average pension $53,182 per year.

30+ years service, average pension $66,828 per year.

AVERAGE FOR SS= $12K per YEAR at age 67!

The average retirement amount for all CalPERS members, who retired at the close of the 2010-2011 fiscal year, is $3065/mo. Yes, it is more than SS, if compared with the same number of years worked. The CalPERS system was founded before SS and is under no obligation to operate with the same rules and regulations as SS. One is apples and the other is oranges.

(I don't get my previously legal, spousal share of SS, due to my government pension. Such "windfall", for government workers, was ended during the Carter Administration.)

You aren't using apples to apples comparison, Rex. You are using apples to oranges. You don't compare a 5-year public sector retirement with a 45-year SS pension. I worked in the public sector. No one in the public sector retires with only five years, unless they are moving on in their careers to something outside of public service, or if they have to or choose to leave for other reasons. A five-year, public sector pension is going to be less than $1,000/mo--most for a miscellaneous worker are going to be closer to less than $500. The SS benefits are figured on the worker's highest 35 years of earnings--not 45 years. My spouse gets about $1800/mo in SS and that is much more than any five-year, retired public employee. And, stop accusing me of engaging in fraud! I have never engaged in fraud in my life--and darn lucky to be getting a public sector retirement, to supplement what my spouse gets in SS and a tiny DB carpenter pension, which is less than his supplementary medical insurance premium.

You seem not to notice, Rex that most public-sector workers are surrounded by private sector spouses, children, etc. The two groups are not islands unto themselves. We should all be concerned about the economy and the State of CA, regardless of where we worked and what sector we came from. I know I am, and I certainly don't go around accusing others of engaging in fraud!

The group you were referring to, and which I describe as cherry picked and small, is both of those when you put it beside the total number of retirees receiving benefits.

Rex is the champion spinner–30-year employees at CalPERS are a small, cherry-picked group among the 500,000+ CalPERS current annuitants.

#1- they are not a "SMALL" group

#2- they were not "cherry picked".

You use apples to apples comparisons, which is what seesaw and the other troughers HATE because then it shows how much fraud they have engaged in.

You compare employees who have worked the EXACT SAME NUMBER OF YEARS to see the difference in the pensions. What seesaw and Bill Lockyer love to do is compare a 5 year calTURDS pension to a 45 year SS pension and claim the 5 year calTURDS pension is only double the SS pension, yet the SS worker worked 9 times longer......

Oh my lil seesaw, why do you try to deceive like Teddy does??????? When the facts are so easy to spank you with?????

Compare the SAME NUMBER OF EMPLOYMENT YEARS seesaw, simple stuff, no more seesaw spin.
