It's amusing that StevefromSacto keeps referring to the "Rabid Right" in California when there isn't any Right here at all. It's your state. Take it ... please.

Stevefromsacto:
So are you saying the Democrats put forth a 'reasonable' candidates. The end result of 30 years of 'reasonable' democratic leadership is a state with a built in 10% unemployment rate, the worst in the nation when you look at its size. For gods sake, we can't even beat North Dakota. The highest number of people on welfare and in poverty. The highest paid teachers resulting in being 48th in test scores.
By your reckoning, the Jets beat the Patriots this last weekend, too.
Hondo.....

You keep losing elections because the voters who decide elections in California are not ideologues. The more Rabid Right candidates and parties become, the more irrelevant they become. It happened nationally, and it happened in California. Homophobic, anti-Hispanic, anti-government rants will not win elections here.

The Democrats have gained control in California because the Republicans have failed to put forward reasonable candidates who are willing to put blind partisanship aside to help solve our state's problems. If you are a moderate voter in our state--the voters who ultimately decide elections--what choice do you have if the Republicans keep moving further and further to the right? You either hold your nose and vote Democratic or you stay home. That's not rocket science.

I came from WY which is a small Red state, a state I love, by the way, and I was speaking mainly about population--not geographic size. Smug, self serving? I am just speaking on the basis of what I have observed of all the citizenry throughout the country throughout my life. I would never live in a state that I did not like or one in where I do not want to live. What keeps a hater like you in CA?

As far as my own politics go--I am closer to the center than I am to the left. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to spot extremism --I dislike it at either end of the ideological spectrum.

"In the small Red states, everyone has the same ideology and the same extreme political/social views."

Boy, what a typically smug, self serving opinion. Which small Red states are you talking about? Most Red states are geographically large. Most of the small states are on the East Coast and tend to be ideologically uniform and distinctly left-liberal. I guess your definition of extreme is anyone who disagrees with you.

"Splitting up CA is a fairy tale, if you want to dream about it–it will never be more than that."

Yes, Crazyfornia will remain a giant swirling vortex of political dysfunction and economic foolishness for the foreseeable future. Splitting it up is obviously a fantasy. I think John was just trying to illustrate the geographic distribution of the partisan divide in the state. I doubt he really believes the place will be broken up.

"CA has diversity of ideologies–thank god!"

Not in any functional sense it doesn't. The "Progressive" ideology is clearly the only one that matters anymore in this State. If we had any real political diversity the Demogoguecrats wouldn't have complete and unfettered control of the place. Being able to choose how far to the left you like your politics isn't my idea of diversity.

As a resident of Chula Vista I must say it is a damn crying shame that Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties have turned Blue. We must have taken for granted our tenious hold of those counties, furthermore it doesn't help that our fellow conservatives and right leaning libertarians are escaping for greener lands out of state.
It is still salvageable but when an openly gay, socially moderate, reform minded, fiscal conservative cannot win in San Diego it is definitely an uphill battle!
