High speed rail is NASCAR speed (200mph+) and moderate speed rail is Cessna speed (100mph).

The HSR web site shows they plan to turn left at Bakersfield, east to Palmdale. Palmdale take a right onward to L.A. what’s the problem? I don’t know but i suspect that lots of black flies, Kangaroo rats and black Snakes live in the desert. How many more endangered species live along the route we will no doubt discover.
A better bet is teleportation or levitating.

I looked, Nerd, and sure enough the tracks are right across the street.

In another day and age I would think such an obstacle easily surmounted and mitigated.

In America of 2012, I’m doubtful.

And just wait until they find a Kangaroo rat or a school of smelt in the local creek. That will put the dagger in that idea.

You need to know that there has been a project to double track the whole route but with President Obama’s declaration of Ceaser Chavez’s home a National Monument, the environmental work already done has to be redone. So much for double tracking as it appears it may not ever happen.
