You forgot to add most of the aerospace industry to that list. When I was growing up in Los Angeles Hughes Aircraft and McDonnell-Douglas were major aerospace employers in the LA plus the small to midsize businesses that supported them. That’s all gone now no thanks to the environmentalists and taxes. There also use to be 3 big steel mills in the LA area also but the environmentalist whackos ran them out long ago.

If you want to see where a lot of the small to medium size businesses in southern Cal went when they got taxed out of California, get on the I-15 and head to Nevada. Stop in Henderson Nevada and take a look at the explosive growth in manufacturing businesses there. 20 years ago McCarren airport was on the outskirts of Las Vegas but not anymore. Far from it.
