I can imagine there are PLENTY of things you enjoy doing that at one time were illegal in this country……and may be to this day in other countries.

That holier-than-thou routine is wearing a tad thin.

ftheunions, I wish the code enforcement officers would do their jobs more efficiently, than they do. Then, I wouldn’t have to look at all the illegal signs that are taped and tacked on the lighting standards. Fortunately though, the code enforcement officers in my town do not have chips on their shoulders. I can’t imagine anything I enjoy doing being illegal, so I don’t expect to have to give any thing up.

I’m sure you will obey the laws however irksome. I suspect your tune will change when the code enforcement officer with a chip on his shoulder shows up at your door to challenge you on the things you enjoy doing.

I don’t regard all public employees as such. Most of them are decent folks just trying to make a living. My contempt is for the administrators and politicians who use the rank and file public employees as pawns to hide behind to cover up their own shenanigans, theft and misuse of public money. They are the real domestic enemies you should direct your enmity at.

In my ever so humble opinion, ALL politicians are sociopaths. They lie, they cheat & steal and have no problems with throwing whomever they need to under a bus to absolve themselves of any blame and make themselves look good.

What you and I can probably agree on is why public employees let politicians use them this way and willingly allow themselves to be thrown under a bus by people who’s only interest in them is as political pawns to be used & abuse when it suits them.

BobA and Rex, I would never judge the patriotism level, or not, of any other person/politician, or any other poster on these comment forums. You should both be ashamed!

Ftheunions, I don’t intend to spend all my time reading about history, politics, and the Constitution, etc. I intend to spend my time doing what I have time to do–including obeying the laws, however irksome they might be.

You’re missing the point. My argument was not about sodas; rather, it was about your willingness to freely relinquish your liberties to those who purport to know best. I am not a smoker and think badly of the habit, but I will forever defend a person’s right to cigarettes without the punitive taxes and will side with them in their perpetual fight against those who know best. You never know when your guilty pleasure is next, Seesaw. In fact, I don’t doubt that somewhere there is an ambitious political hack–likely a California democrat, envisioning the next measure that will seek to remedy the state’s finances by targeting our rights to things like alcohol, cheeseburgers, strip clubs, etc. And if you are going to use the obesity epidemic as a defense, I would say to you that it is better to be fat and free than anything and not free! I would recommend you read Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell for a frank discussion on the perils of relinquishing our liberties to do-gooders.

Take solace in the fact that I am an American patriot and I love my country. Can’t say the same for our politicians though.

The day some members within our government attempt to do away with the US Constitution or rewrite it against the will of the people is the day I will take up arms and do what ever is necessary to defend our country and it’s Constitution.
