BobA--- I sense alot of anger in you. What do you have to be so angry about? Has life passed you by? Not earn enough? Family issues? Personality disorder?-- something. Your constant negative view must be informed by something other that current events because so many of us see the glass as half full. Have you considered talking to someone?

Teddy,

You're just having too too much fun.

Personally, I would have said that this article is a prime example of....."media" distorting economic facts.

Nothing like ignoring the difference between monthly employment numbers and seasonally adjusted numbers.

According to the link in the article, 1.67 million jobs were created in 2012. Perhaps more would be better, but that is way better than losing a million jobs a year as we have in the past.

According to the article: "in 2007 more than 146 million Americans were employed. Today, that number has dropped to 141.6 million"

OR: As the glass half full people say, from 2007 to 2010, employment fell by 6.98 million, and since 2010, we have recovered 3.4 million of those jobs.

Both those stats came from the SAME BLS TABLES (thanks for the link, Katy) but the first statement implies we are in a death spiral. The second statement looks like we were in a major (as in world-wide) recession and are now slowly recovering. You be the judge.
----------------
“Gas prices have almost doubled."

In June, 2008, gas prices were over $4 a gallon. They dropped to less than $2 when the bottom dropped out of the stock market. Now they are returning to near $4 again. It looks like "gas prices have doubled" is.....media distorting facts.
-----------------------

"California's poverty rate is 23.5%"

The "official" poverty rate is 16.3% (three year average) 23.5% is the Supplemental Poverty Measure meant to measure the effects of regional living costs and the availability of government programs:
"As a whole, the safety net is holding many people up, while California is struggling more because it's relatively harder there to qualify for food stamps and other benefits."... University of Wisconsin-Madison economist Timothy Smeeding

Looks like there is distortion one both sides of this issue. Bottom line, we are way better off now than we were four years ago.
