Don’t think we’re in agreement, Katy, unless you believe that it is the ultra-right wing, flame-throwing Repubs like Tim Donnelly who are destroying the party. And that’s not how I read your piece.

And John, what is the reason the GOP is so small? Could it be that the policies it espouses are not supported by the overwhelming majority of Californians? And if that is true, there are only two solutions: 1) give up, or 2) make your policies more palatable to moderate, independent Californians.

When you’re in a hole, the first thing you ought to do is stop digging.

Skipping D is correct. The bummer is that a weak and unpopular Repub party does zero good for we Dems and the nation as a whole. In fact, I think the current Repub party brings out the worst in the Dems. I miss Nixon’s party when it had common sense, a bit less overt exclusion and hatred and paranoia.

The Tea Party is really nothing more than the old John Birch Society people and sympathizers who put on a new label and are trying to sell the same old far-right nonsense. Before you know it, we’ll be seeing “Impeach Earl Warren” and “Get the U.S. out of the U.N.” bumper stickers on all the Tea Partier cars.

As to the Tea Party, it never was much in California, and in any case was betrayed at the national level when Boehner and McConnell sold them out and agreed with Obama to increase the payroll tax on the middle class, instead of working for major cuts.

The problem isn’t GOP “infighting,” but a GOP so small there’s nothing to fight about. And it’s not going to get better.

It’s a Democratic state now and for 100 years. If you want to live under Republican leadership, move to a Red state.

This is a teaching moment and an important opportunity for Brulte to put an end to the flame-throwing, ignorant, power-seeking faction of the state’s Republican Party. Far too often, this faction seeks opportunities for power, ALTHOUGH MOST OF THEM TEND TO BE MODERATE, CRONY CAPITALISTS. The infighting and vicious attacks have been a problem for many years, but have escalated in recent years through vociferous bloggers and local Republican groups. Perhaps under Brulte’s leadership this divisive faction will be exposed and marginalized.

Am I reading this right. Are you saying that the flame-throwing, ignorant, power-seeking Republicans tend to be moderates? Are you saying that the Tea Baggers, Tim Donnellys, John and Kens, etc. are not responsible for the infighting which is destroying the party?

To win elections, as Brulte said, Republicans must reach out beyond their 29 percent “base.” But to do so, they must change the kind of hateful, ignorant policies that have driven so many people out of the party in the first place.

This is the problem with the republican party in Ca. they make up 29% of the votes, but & this is the big but,They control over 51% of Ca. financial wealth.This being said the folks who want a more conservative ran Ca. need to ban together & threaten to use their collective wallets to change how things are ran in Ca.We need to ban together and threaten to pull all funds from the system until we get what’s best for Ca. & that’s a fare tax system with cohesive gov. that’s agile with program’s that work & can’t be exploited (for either party’s monetary gain) through out the state. Immigration that let’s workers apply for work visas in timely fashions; & are cost effective for all. Democrat’s are using empty promises too gain the peoples votes while playing the blame game most effectively. Republican’s can combat this by using their collective wallets demanding change or taking their (pensions 401k’s IRA’s bank & business accounts)out of the system the liberals use by taxing to fund their agendas.
