I love the comment from one of the Latino interviewee’s who said that Latino’s will vote for people who “look like us”. Wow, that is an amazingly frank admission of ethnic loyalty trumping values or principles. The political career of Able Maldonado would seem to undermine that naive but revealing assessment.

A critical mass has already been achieved by the Democratic Socialists. They have an unbreakable grip on Latino loyalty that extends from the street corner to the State House and no amount of pandering from desperate Republicans is going to put much of a dent in that. What immigrants to this country want most of all is free stuff in exchange for their political support.

I’m not saying “Hispanics” aren’t hard working and ambitious, because they are. It’s just that getting their vote requires a lot more than merely acknowledging that obvious fact. The Democrats will always be better at distributing the spoils of political plunder than the slow witted and timid opposition party, burdened as it is with something resembling personal ethics and a vague notion of limited government.

All of those elderly white folks having to run the Mariachi gauntlet was side splitting funny. What Republicans should have done was hang a giant pinata and let the Latino delegates take a crack at all the set asides, quotas and freebies that will come at the expense of the rest of us.
