The downward spiral of the newspaper industry and the growing push by advertisers to get larger audiences by providing more entertainment and less news are to blame for a lot of this. 

But another problem is the unwillingness of people to hear both sides of the story. Too many Americans bury themselves in Fox News or MSNBC or listen solely to people like Rush Limbaugh for their &quot;news.&quot;  They are encouraged to believe that anything not emphasized on these outlets is left-wing or right-wing propaganda.
