Not true.

AB32 inspired many to agitate for a new and separate revenue stream on top of those already in existence in California. That’s what the carbon emission exchanges are…the ability to allow government to conjure (monetize) additional revenue from ongoing and already taxed economic activities, sell the “credits” and turn this new money into yet more state spending. Most of the new spending will find its way into the pockets of the “well connected” in California I’m quite sure.

It was NOT wholly without inspiration.

For example…….it inspired laughter in many state capitols, as well as Beijing, Seoul, New Delhi, and several others.

John, everything you cover in this article was predicted in 2006 by opponents of AB 32. Few Crazyfornia voters cared then and now it is too late. In politics mistakes last forever and good policy is always in danger of repeal if it has any chance at all. It’s too late to expect a course correction on AB 32. No matter how disastrous it is the ruling class is all in for a European style Democratic Socialist Enviro state. Each new policy failure creates a crisis which they exploit for more draconian measures. In a strange and twisted kind of way it’s a beautiful thing, like the perfect con job.
