“Our first European settlements were in the Northeast”…. not to be picky but the first permanent European settlements were in the Southeast… St. Augustine, Fla 1565, Jamestown, Va 1607, and Roanoke Colony or the ” Lost Colony”, on Roanoke Island, NC 1585-1587 ( does not really count because everyone had disappeared when the English returned to check on the colonists). Plymouth , Ma did not start until 1620. Massachusetts was the first colony to legalize slavery ( 1641). Isn’t history fun?

People started leaving soon after……and haven’t stopped since. The relative importance of Siegel’s beloved Deep Blue Northeastern states have been dropping, not for years, or even decades, but for centuries.

He talks about a gun free utopia but what he really means is a society where only government agents and criminals have guns. How about a big Nazi salute for that idea Skippy. If Siegel really wants a complete ban on carbon emissions then he should set a good example and stop breathing. How might he accomplish that? I suggest spending a nice spring weekend in Rahm Emmanuels gun free ProgBot paradise flashing big wads of cash and gold jewelry.

John, I think what will really happen is that these unsustainable programs will be bailed out by Federal Reserve fiat money, causing hyperinflation. The hyperinflation will then be blamed on “speculators” and price gouging. This will be used as an excuse for draconian wage and price controls which will cause massive economic disruption, unemployment, nationwide riots and eventually lead to martial law. Then “progressive” stooges like Lee Siegel will finally get what they have wanted all along, a totalitarian welfare state.
