Biz execs: CA still worst state for business

California’s economy might be improving slightly. But its business climate still ranks dead last among the 50 states, according to the 2013 survey by Chief Executive[2] magazine:

“Texas leads the way while Florida edges closer; Arizona and Nevada move up while California sinks lower in CEOs’ estimation.”

Comments by some CEOs:

“CA Regulates and taxes companies unreasonably.”

“California is getting worse, if that is even possible.”

“California’s legal system is broken. Employment law and contract law are highly problematic and along with regulations and taxes, discourage any further investment in this state.”

“California is completely confiscatory, ever dreamng up new ways to stick it to sub-Apple-sized companies. So far, Washington is smart enough to recognize where its jobs come from.”

“Am not aware of any businesses other than entertainment that will be expanding or moving into CA. It is a black hole.”

As to first-place Texas, CEOs can’t praise it enough:

“States like Texas… are consistently trying to help us grow our business and are listening to the leaders of companies to help solve problems.”

“We moved the bulk of our manufacturing and engineering operations to Austin and have been very pleased with the results.”

“Texas has it ‘right’ on all fronts.”

“A number of my friends do business in both California and Texas. Their experiences are causing them to move as much of their operations to Texas as they can. I only invest in California if I have to!”

“Glad to become part of the great “TEXodus” and moved from CA to TX—been really terrific for us.”

“Texas is probably the most business friendly state I’ve ever been in and supports the efforts of new and existing businesses.”
