They are blinded by their own arrogance and exhibit a foolish propensity to believe their own propaganda. They always overreach and this will be their downfall. Think of them as a Greek tragedy, only there will be no Deus Ex Machina to save them at the last moment. They are doomed just like the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.
