Not that we should run the election again. And Mitt Romney really was a terrible candidate, one of the worst the GOP has to offer. It would have been worse had he won because we’d be suffering through his first term in office, with him trying to impose a new batch of government-increasing ideas; instead of laughing through the implosion of the Obama regime, which now won’t be able to achieve anything, assuming it even remains in power.

But remember how after the election, President Obama’s backers, especially at such house organs as the New York Times and MSNBC, claimed he received a mandate to increase government, outlaw guns, etc.? And that the Republican Party, the NRA and the Tea Party had been repudiated by voters?

Now it appears the election was rigged by the IRS, urged on by Democratic Party partisans[2]. More than 500 —[3] 500! — Tea Party and other conservative and libertarian groups and persons were attacked through audits. Romney’s own tax return was leaked by an Obama campaign co-chair[4].

There are questions:

1. What did Obama know and when did he know about it? Either he knew about it and was complicit in it. Or he  didn’t know what was going on in his own administration and re-election campaign, meaning he was incompetent.

2. Why did anybody think this was a good idea? Didn’t they learn from Watergate? This kind of skulduggery gets out eventually. If it had come out last October, it would have sunk Obama’s presidency.

3. Will we really allow the corrupt IRS to run the main parts of Obamacare[5], where it will have access to not just every American’s financial records, but most intimate medical records?

4. Will we ever have the moxie to abolish a “service” that, from its inception 100 years ago, often has been used to harass a president’s political opponents? As James Bovard writes today [6]in the Wall Street Journal:

“President Franklin Roosevelt used the IRS to harass newspaper publishers who were opposed to the New Deal, including William Randolph Hearst and Moses Annenberg, publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer….

“After Richard Nixon took office, his administration quickly created a Special Services Staff to mastermind what a memo called ‘all IRS activities involving ideological, militant, subversive, radical, and similar type organizations. More than 10,000 individuals and groups were targeted because of their political activism or slant between 1969 and 1973, including Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling (a left-wing critic of the Vietnam War) and the far-right John Birch Society.”
