I am not surprised at any of this. A classic example of a “too large government” operation. This has been going on for at least 40 (time I’ve been a Californian) years. The CalTrans bureaucracy can’t manage anything. I’d bet that a huge majority of the most monetary successful projects they’ve had were ones that were wholly contracted to a private source. Witness the Hwy 1 Devil’s Slide project.

Can t wait for the HSR employees staffing the terminal. Note the dude cleaning the toilets at $150k per year with the 25 and out pension at 85 percent of his final pay(plus spiking), driving home in his state supplied electric Lexus turning in the home electricity bill for reimbursement. Sweet!

Sounds like a qualified non political bridge building firm needs to come in and analyze this whole grim scenario and make serious recommendations and how to fixes. Eliminate Caltrans. Otherwise, more fighting.

Having read the references and anecdotes imbedded in CWD posts for some time, I’ll go out on a very sturdy limb and suggest that pretty much everyone here is over 40.

With that said, I can confidently state: None of us will ever live to see the completed HSR project.

As a native Californian recently moved to Nevada, I can’t wait for the “Bullet Train”. This should be entertaining! I predict that the B. T. will make the Bay Bridge joke look like a good deal!!
