‘Purge’ movie attacks NRA, Tea Party

The new movie, “The Purge[2],” sounds like it’s the future of California when all budget money is shifted to pay the pensions of retirees, canceling actual government services. Violent crime already has gone up “across the board[3]” after Gov. Jerry Brown shifted many state prisoners to local jails, or to parole, to pay for the state pensions. And in Oakland, crime is way up after police were laid of[4]f to pay for the city pensions.

The plot: One day a year, the Purge, any crime can be committed. Director James DeMonaco admits[5] he ripped off the plot from an old “Star Trek” episode from 1967: “The Return of the Archons.” The Trek plot[6]: On the planet Beta III:

“The entire culture is ruled over by cloaked and cowled ‘lawgivers,’ controlled by a reclusive dictator known as Landru. The only time the people ‘let loose’ is at the striking of ‘The Red Hour’ (at 6:00pm), starting ‘Festival’: a period of violence, destruction and sexual aggressiveness which apparently is the only time Landru does not exercise control over them.”

Hollywood has become so unimaginative that all its plots now seem to derive from 1960s Trek episodes. Even the new Trek movie, “Star Trek Into Darkness[7]” is just a remake of “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan” from 1982, which in turn was based on “Space Seed[8]” from 1967. “Wrath” at least had the virtue of William Shatner and Ricardo Montalban, both notable hams, chewing up scenery with such classic dialogue as:

Khan: “Kiiiiiiiiiiiiirk!”

Kirk: “Khan, you bloodsucker!”

NRA

Anyway, “The Purge” actually is just a propaganda movie. In an interview[9], Director James DeMonaco said it’s an attack on the NRA. Others have seen in it [10]an attack on the Tea Party and Christians. It might have done a lot better last December, right after the Sandy Hook massacre when the NRA was demonized by President Obama and liberal Democrats. That also was right after Obama’s big election victory, which demonized the Tea Party as a bunch of Koch-funded nuts trying to take over the country and cut taxes.

Things are different in June 2013. In recent weeks, we’ve seen that it’s the Obama regime that used the IRS, the NSA, the EPA and other rogue, out-of-control police-state agencies to harass his opponents before the election, effectively rigging his “victory.”

In that context, DeMonaco’s “The Purge” is part of this general Obama-inspired attack on our liberties, especially the Bill of Rights. The movie, as the director himself celebrates, is drive-by assault on our sacred Second Amendment “right to keep and bear arms.”

Office Mojo says it made [11]$16.7 million on Friday, so it could make about $45 million its first weekend, which is pretty good. Well, after Obama’s government terrorized the Tea Party and other opponents of his regime, 65,899,660 people did vote for him[12].

And life does seem to be imitating that 1967 “Star Trek” episode, “The Return of the Archons.” Here’s more of the plot[13]:

“Kirk’s landing party beams down just before the [Red Hour] festival, and they seek shelter from the mobs [IRS, NSA minions] at a nearby boarding house. Landru [Obama] seems to be ‘all-seeing’ and ‘all-knowing’ with spies everywhere, one of whom turns in the party when he does not recognize them as members of ‘The Body’: the telepathic collective being [the Democratic Party], symbiotic with Landru, that most of the inhabitants belong to.”
