The unions want only unions doing these audits-screw the workers. Sadly, that is what we have come to expect from unions. "Its all about the workers." Riiiiight. I know overreach and this is overreach. Dirty scoundrels. And the Democrats are the "Because We Can" Party and lapdogs to Big Labor. Imagine a world where the only auditing firms are union because the Labor goons already have the scheme in motion.

Unions have long supported compliance programs that ensure workers are being paid proper wages & benefits, as long as the programs left union contractors alone.
The biggest benefit of having the ability to tax "union dues" your workers is being able to call in favors from those you help get elected with that same dues money. There is no other rational way to look at SB 776 other than a special favor for a special interest.
The fact that workers being treated unfairly is not a non-union problem but an industry problem is inconvenient at best for union labor bosses.
I would think even die hard union supporters would want someone making sure union workers are being paid a fair wage on tax payer funded construction projects as well as non-union workers. I guess politicians have to do what they have to do, the next election cycle is always just around the corner...

The payments will have to be made to "a joint program or committee established by the federal Labor Management Cooperation Act of 1978."

This law is a New Age legacy of the 1970s now used as a massive source of unrestricted, unaccountable union cash. Republicans should have repealed it or at least promulgated regulations to control these groups. See this web site for details:
