OOPS! While my FACTS are correct, my references were not. Outdated website info. Not that anyone cares.

For the ONE person that does, here's the correct Oregon reference:
http://www.oregon.gov/dor/forms/personal/publication-17-5_101-431_2012.pdf page 132

And here's the correct CA URL for our tax rates:
https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2012_california_tax_rates_and_exemptions.shtml
NOTE: The FTB tries to mislead about the millionaires tax max rate -- claiming in the table it's "only" 12.3%. But it's really 13.3%, which they mention elsewhere in an obscure paragraph (1% extra for "mental health").

Whoa John. Don't leave. We need you here!

Moreover, Oregon has a MUCH higher income tax than California -- for people making less than $1,000,000 or so. Its rate increases kick in sooner, and are much higher percentages than most Californians face.
http://www.tax-brackets.org/oregontaxtable
vs.
http://www.tax-brackets.org/californiataxtable

Actually, for over half of Californians, our state income tax is low compared to MOST other states. For instance, a family of four with no itemized deductions and making a modest $50K in income will pay only $73 state income tax. If they make $40K, they get money BACK in the form of generous tax credits similar to the federal EITC.

Hence most Californians don't feel put upon by our state income tax -- blithely voting to raise the tax rates -- on someone ELSE. After all, we ARE a "progressive" state.

So John, if you DO decide to move, there are better choices than Oregon. For the truly tax adverse, move to Washington state -- just north of the Oregon border. No state income taxes, and do your shopping in sales tax free Oregon (breaking Washington state "use tax" laws, but you're used to living on the edge, so to speak).
