It would definitely sound unfair for the creditors and the pensioners because they won't get paid if the City files for bankruptcy. It will also somehow spark a bad reaction to other cities who might opt for similar strategies.

Like I said before Skdog, you tell a lot of lies. My company made custom areospace parts. I was a vendor for Boeing, M/D, Hughes, and others and I was less expensive than the competition. Though many of the companies I supplied with product had military connections, I supplied for the civilian side of their business.

Having a bottom line gives me much more "insight" than any RAGWUS feeder could ever have Skdog. You never cared how the money you recieved was generated or doled out, you never earned it, or even knew how. If taxation were to end today feeders would all starve to death, folks in the private sector that work for a living would be just fine. :)

Skdog, I ran my own company for 25 years; you sucked on the RAGWUS teet, never having to earn a penny to stay afloat, you are the one that is "clueless" my trough feeding friend. :)

Skdog, your commie/Maxist drivel is the result of pure BS. The RAGWUS feeders of Detroit ran business out of their city, helped by the county and state also.

It was NAFTA/CAFTA/MFNTS all signed by your Uncle Bill that stripped the nation of its industry. Add your Eco-freak friends finished them off, just like is about to happen in California. Though California can still live off its fat for a few more years there will come a point where even the wealthy enclaves will begin the same decline as Detroit. All you have to do is look at the drainage control fencing, school fencing, road upkeep, and the rust at every intersection, Detroit is coming to us slowly but surely. :)

The need for government services of all types increases with an economic decline, Donkey. Even someone as dense as you knows that. I have no doubt that Detroit could and should have made some different decisions in the last half-century, as should the predominately Republican Governors of that state during the same period.

Detroit is a trailing indicator of our old Rust Belt manufacturing economy, most of which was off-shored because of Republican tax policies in the voodoo economics craze brought upon us by Ronald Reagan and his minions. It has been kept afloat longer than the places producing steel, refrigerators, washing machines and other appliances because the auto companies are headquartered there.

If you truly care about middle class jobs and renewed manufacturing in our country, you would support significant import tariffs on manufactured goods of all types, including automobiles, trucks, and major appliances. You would also oppose any further efforts to expand our international trade agreements that effectively open our borders to manufactured merchandise produced by slave labor in places like China. You won't do that though, because the corporate masters you shill for make their profits from precisely that unbalanced trade which has proven so detrimental to American workers.

So Skdog, are you telling me that the Detroit RAGWUS feeders changed their greedy ways when tax income headed south? It is the cost of the feeders that has sent Detroit into the toilet, not the business that they drove off or the taxpayers that left. The RAGWUS has no reason or ability to adapt because the people that inhabit its world live in a vaccum, unable to see the future and change, just a typical government bureaucracy.

Mehlman, stop with the BS lying about the average RAGWUS feeders pension. The total cost is all that matters, and the total cost is not sustainable. :)

Up until the early 70's, Detroit was making approximately $1 billion each year on defense contracts for the VN war AND making cars at the same time. The shutdown of the VN war and the first oil embargo/crisis is what punched a hole in the big-three, most particularly Chrysler at that time. That's why the federal government had to bail out Chrysler. Remember Lee Iacocca?
